Human Workflows in BPM - Post 2
Workflow pattern represent recurring requirements in workflows, where workflow might include interactions involving both system and human participants. Patterns in workflows involving only systems are structured in nature [http://www.workflowpatterns.com/patterns/index.php ]; whereas human workflow patterns are unstructured in nature.Until now, we have found good literature on system workflow patterns; however these patterns are not enough to capture human interaction in real life workflows.
In my subsequent posts I will be identifying and grouping an exhaustive list of human workflow patterns in real life business processes, where grouping is done based on similarity of objective across workflows. The identified patterns can be used in a number of ways including, determining platform centric implementation, product evaluation for human workflow support, creation of applicable human workflow patterns catalogue to name a few.The workflow patterns are derived from real life process requirements primarily from financial services industry where as much as 70% of workflows involve human participation [. http://www.bpminstitute.org/research/research/article/research-brief-bpm-and-banking.html].
