Key differentiators in Oracle Fusion Applications when compared to Oracle Applications Unlimited

Over the past few years, from the time Oracle had announced about Fusion Applications many organizations were curious to know what Fusion Applications would bring to the table. Now with Fusion applications around the corner, it has resulted in dilemma whether they should adapt to Fusion application or continue on existing Oracle Applications Unlimited.

Having been on Oracle Applications Unlimited as consultants for the last 10 years or so, we were more than curious to find out what Fusion applications has to offer, that is when Oracle had invited us for Fusion Applications -Beta Validation. Based on our learnings, we would try to highlight few take away and pain points, which Fusion applications meant to address.

Enterprise Applications Product market is undergoing a rapid change, organizations are looking forward to ease of use, better end user experience ,increased user productivity, easy to deploy and maintenance. Fusion has been designed to address the above problems, which exist today in one form or another in Applications Unlimited.

Next Generation Fusion Applications Suite has been built from grounds up on Open Standards technology, best of features from acquired products / solutions with Oracle's Applications and Middleware Technologies.

Few Key differentiators that Fusion brings onto the table around process, technology, and user experience etc

Fusion applications and Process: Many organizations have implemented best of breed applications like PeopleSoft for HCM, Seibel for CRM and always longed for a system with tightly coupled end to end process.
Fusion has been designed on Best of Business Process and features from Applications unlimited for example Trading Community Architecture from Oracle eBusiness suite, Business Unit and Set ID concepts from PeopleSoft to name a few.  Providing customers the best of the best.

Fusion applications and Technology: Present day applications have been on proprietary tools like People Tools, Forms, which require niche skill sets to mange and maintain.
Fusion has been developed, with Open standards based technology and is built on re-known Oracle Fusion Middleware (ADF, JAVA,SOA, BPEL, WEB 2.0 etc), which makes it a Generation advanced than existing applications, in Maintenance and functionality.

Fusion applications and User Experience:  Next generation applications brings with it enhanced Usability in the form of simplified UI, minimum number of clicks, easy navigation with embedded WEB 2.0 technologies and integration with Social network sites. This would bring in an increased User Adaption, Customer Loyalty and productivity.

Fusion applications Co-existence functionality: Fusion applications solutions have been designed with the option to co- exist with existing Application unlimited investment, there by providing organizations the flexibity in upgrade, Maintenance and enhanced realizable ROI. Example Fusion Incentive Compensation module can co exists with Applications Unlimited Seibel CRM and Oracle eBusiness Payroll.

Fusion Flexible Deployment options: Present day applications have not been designed from grounds up for SAAS or On Demand  type of  flexible deployments ,which provide lower TCO.
Fusion applications have been designed from grounds up with offering customers a flexible deployment options from On premise, On Demand and SAAS models to Hybrid, which provide lower TCO to customers

Time to Deploy: It has always been a nightmare for implementers, moving through various phases of the project, from migration of code and configuration between various instances (i.e. Development, Test and Production) to configurations check lists to name a few.

Fusion Functional Setup Manager (FSM) is a one- stop shop for all implementation activities from planning to Deployment. Offering, predefined configurations for implementation with embedded documentation, analysis of Business process, check lists and options for export/import of configurations across multiple instances (Test/ Production). .  This would help a deploying organization to cut down cost and time for implementation and continuous maintenance

We believe Fusion Applications will address most of the critical pain points, and we our anxious to see how market would react.

By when do you think will companies start implementing Fusion CRM apps. Are they ripe enough that say a customer who wants to go for a new implementation starting Q2 2011 can implement them ? Should they implement siebel or fusion crm apps ? What would you advise ? Which skills do you think will be important for implementing fusion crm apps ? By when should a siebel developer have those skills ?
