Oracle OpenWorld 2010: Logistics Optimization & Beyond

For global enterprises, transportation management systems (TMS) are always viewed in a holistic perspective, integrated into an overall 'order to cash' supply chain. Logistics planners are thereby looking for a TMS that can provide end to end optimization solution with capability of shipping any product from any node in the supply chain network - supplier drop ship, warehouse to customer, customer returns etc.

Infosys was engaged as a strategic partner for one of the leading network equipment manufacturer in US. The initiative was aimed at transforming their logistics capabilities and in turn drives significant cost savings via shipment consolidation and route optimization across their global network.Electronic equipments, being low weight are generally shipped via parcel carriers. Parcel shipping is an inherently complex and expensive mode with unique challenges such as large volume of transactions, complex rate schedules (zone or tier based), negotiated discounts and multiple carrier & service levels. Shippers can realize huge cost savings by efficient rate shopping and mode shift optimization i.e. substituting more expensive express services with less costly ground service and still meeting the expected service levels.

The solution leveraged Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) with existing Oracle E-Business suite to provide scalable solution on a single platform. OTM, which is known for  its robust transportation planning and execution capabilities was integrated with 3rd party tools like Kewill Flagship to support parcel rating & freight settlement for major express parcel carriers.
