Need to Avoid Web Asset Proliferation? Oracle Portal and other Oracle Products can help you Rationalization Web Assets

In today's world most of the organizations are going for complex integrations of heterogeneous contents on their websites. This is resulting in scattered web content and scattered information is very difficult to manage and maintain.

Oracle Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Oracle Portal Life cycle management make it easy for the developers/organizations to bring heterogeneous content from different web assets on to a single platform. The open nature of the architecture and the standards provided by the tools help organizations to plan their future for rationalized web assets.

Major reason for web assets' proliferation

In the initial days most organizations made lot of investment in getting their own web sites for different purposes, which resulted in web assets' proliferation. Below are the major pain points which drive the rationalization of the web assets:

  • No unified view of organizations' information
  • User interface (UI) being inconsistent
  • Multiple security mechanisms
  • Little re-use and code sharing

Approach to avoid web assets' proliferation

Rationalization is an incremental process with Oracle SOA and Portal technologies. But it can make the applications to be more efficient and cost effective very quickly.

There are different ways to go towards rationalizing the web assets:

  • If an application requires more than 75% of re-work then write it as a service to be delivered through portal platform.
  • Access to any re-usable application has to be routed through the portal platform.
  • New services are developed as native to Oracle Portal.

Leveraging Oracle products to overcome the pain points in rationalization

  • Oracle Identity and Access Management (OIAM) suite provides a rationalized security for the tightly integrated portal platform.
  • Re-usable UI elements of Oracle's Web center suite such as skins, skeletons and themes can be leveraged at the master portal which can be inherited to sub portals.
  • Oracle web center suite provides a frame work that can be re-used by leveraging which, the organizations can avoid re-writing lot of code.
