Transaction basket importance for large retailer

How Transaction Basket is important for large retailer and why they should pay more attention on investing maintaining holistic, flexible and scalable.

As most of us aware, POS and Self-checkout play significant role in small and large commodity and every millions of item/sales transactions made thru' these terminals. Moments a transaction is initiated thru POS, a dedicated Transaction Log created (Most of the Retailer call this as TLOG in their IT systems). Generally these TLOGS are archived/persisted in SALES Transaction Basket (typically a warehouse). This Transaction basket will be predominately used for supplying sufficient data for various other downstream systems like Data warehouse reporting's, Decision Support decision involving key merchandise moves across Markets and regions, Various Financials service(s) and reporting systems, Consumer analytics, vendor analytics, other investments, Consumer knowledge, arrive buying pattern.

The underlying data in Transaction basket will enable the retailer to understand the buyer's needs and rewrite the store's layout accordingly, develop cross-promotional programs, or even capture new buyers (much like the cross-selling concept).These Sales Transaction basket archives a particular transaction covering the item details, consumer details, credit card details and these details play significant role if there is RTV/RGD performed on the merchandise. Large retailer like TARGET, Wal-Mart, Toys, and SEARS expected to generate average of 200-300Million transaction /day and ~200,000 Transaction files/day.
