Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) overview
Background..
In today’s world companies are under increasing pressure to reduce costs, meet tougher performance and production targets, comply with regulatory requirements, and maximize return on assets. A new, more collaborative and integrated approach to enterprise asset management (EAM) can yield significant savings and improve the operational performance of asset investments. This new approach spans all phases of the asset life cycle – investment planning, specification, design, asset construction, operations and maintenance, and, ultimately, decommissioning and disposal. It is time to look at asset management in a more holistic and collaborative business context. EAM helps companies manage physical assets – production plants, capital equipment, vehicle fleets, and facilities complexes – over the complete asset life cycle. In conjunction with powerful reporting and analysis, the SAP solutions’ EAM capabilities enable you to reduce operating costs, better manage capital expenditure, and improve asset utilization.
What is EAM?
EAM is the management of all assets owned by a company, based on maximizing the return on investment in the asset
Examples of Asset-Intensive Industries

Thanks Nirmal for the interest and below are the responses to your query.
Q1. How Plant and maintain ice module, Assets module and EAM talk to each other
R1 - Before we get in to integration aspects of these modules, let me first give back ground on these modules.
Plant Maintenance - Plant Maintenance ( PM) is an early evolution of work management for asset. The PM module was focused on giving work management related functionalities of an asset like , work order management, Notifications ,Standard Maintenance procedures , Maintenance Strategies and so on.
EAM - EAM is an enhanced version of PM Module. In EAM , the focus is given on not only work management related aspects of an asset , but it considered the safety , operation, Financial and analytics of an asset. The coverage is achieved using SAP modules like PM, PS (Project System), QM (Quality Management) and FI -AA ( Fixed Asset Accounting )
Asset Module - Generally referred as FI-AA Module in SAP, is financial life cycle of an asset right from Asset under construction (AuC) to fixed Asset. It helps in calculating depreciation of asset value, thereby helping the right time for Asset retirement process.
All these modules are tightly integrated in SAP , A piece of equipment can be associated with an asset number ( depending the capital value and organization policies). It is possible to synchronize the data in real time. As asset number is maintained on equipment master and vice versa.
Q2. Q2- Can we implement P&M first and FIAA and then EAM
A2. Yes it is possible to implement PM first (basic work management with asset register) , FI-AA and then enhanced version of PM i.e. EAM.
