Does Polycloud offer the best of various cloud Vendors?

Poly Cloud

Cloud is one of the most talked subjects in today's commercial environment for the flexible business favorable benefits and capabilities, it provides us. Over the time period, we have seen how it has grown from Singlecloud to now Polycloud. Polycloud has come up with new features which let the user utilize the best and complete feature to its best. In Polycloud architecture we eliminate all in one approach and divide the work into different providers. For example, you can run your API on AWS, but your data lake on IBM cloud.

What is Poly Cloud?

Polycloud in simple terms is a combination of multiple clouds. This has multiple benefits over using a single cloud, which reduces the singular dependency on a cloud. The concept is simple rather than using one vendor we use multiple vendors. We must know that cloud is evolving rapidly, during the early years we have seen "locked-in" into a single cloud provider. Hence, a strategy of "cloud agnostic" the approach was taken. But the issue that we faced here was "portability". Then we adapted "generic cloud usage", which is a simple migration of infrastructure from on-premises to a cloud platform. This is where multi/poly cloud comes into play, where "all in" with one provider. Organizations are migrating different kinds of workload to a different provider.

Poly cloud strategy can be explained as single data Store centric E.g.: primary store can be in MYSQL, analytical data could be in MongoDB and caching layer be served by Redis. This will help in reaping the full benefits of each cloud by using their native services.

The main cloud providers (Amazon, Microsoft and Google) are locked in a belligerent race to maintain equivalence on core abilities while their products are distinguished only marginally. Due to which, few companies are going with polycloud. Rather than centering all the workload over one cloud and flooding it with the workload. We can distribute the work sum to different clouds which will be doing specific work. This will not only distribute the work pressure but will also increase the capability of work. This kind of approach will be best in breed approach.

Is Multi-Cloud and Poly Cloud Synonymous?

Answer to this question is a big NO. The sole working and improvisation would be using multiple clouds, rather than going all in one which was implemented in Single cloud. If we had to point out the major difference between these it would be.

 Multicloud:

They are giving the same workload to multiple vendors and allowing them to eliminate a few functionalities to their business needs.

Benefits:

1.    Mitigating issues to any provider.

2.    High skill levels, as we can leverage offers from multiple providers.

3.    The capability to host in locations.

4.    We can relieve-of a lot of workloads to Docker or Kubernetes

Issues:

1.    Obliged to use basic resources to meet the vendors' requirements

2.    Can't use customized tools

3.    Difficult to find skilled Employees who are accustomed to all vendors

Poly cloud:

They are getting the best from one vendor. The same workload is not given to all the vendor rather every vendor will be doing a specific job. By this, we can get the best they can provide and use the resources to the fullest.

Benefits of cloud computing

1.    Choice of cloud computing

2.    Avoid unforeseen disasters

3.    Customize the environment

4.    Optimizes RoI

5.    Variety of features

6.    Reliable architecture

Issues:

1.    Cause of cloud-to-cloud vendor connectivity, there can be an increase in latency

2.    Since you are solely dependent on one vendor for specific work, their absence my cos harm to the workflow.

3.    Increase in intricacy due to several vendors

Conclusion:

Cloud development deployment solutions are the latest trends today for a business to increase productivity and RoI. With cloud-based technology providers like Amazon web services, Microsoft Azure, Google App Engine offering niche cloud solutions, there is a lot to look for. It's worth a wait to see how far cloud computing will reach in the coming years and achieve supreme agility, intuitions, and capability in application development and delivery.
