Why SAP EWM on S/4 Hana 1909 is a Game Changer Compared to Classical EWM versions till 9.5
In an endeavor to constantly evolve the next generation WMS,
exactly one year before SAP had announced the arrival of EWM on its flagship S/4
HANA server, it is now available since version 1809 FPS02. Before this
announcement, EWM was already available as embedded EWM within a S/4HANA on
premise system since version 1610.
As we know, embedded EWM on S/4 HANA is recommended by SAP small
and midsize warehouses (non-high throughput warehouses) within a geographical
region which is near to the data center where the S/4HANA system is hosted.
Whereas, Decentral-EWM is recommended for high-throughput and best future
scalability options, provides best independent upgrade capabilities and does
not restrict future ERP integration scenarios.
Erstwhile Classical EWM deployments were mainly on the separate
NetWeaver system instance for EWM 9.0 onwards and on the separate SCM Server
instance before 9.0.
As per SAP's product roadmap, Decentral EWM deployed on SAP
S/4HANA is the successor product of Business Suite SAP EWM. It is considered as
the most recommended standard decentral deployment option for new EWM
installations.
All Classical versions before EWM 9.5 and lower are now
recommended by SAP for the migration to this new deployment option on S/4 HANA
server. There are several major reasons for it and will prove to be game
changer for SAP in the long term as a strategic WMS product in the market.
